SmartCardia has developed a small, wireless patch able to measure emergency-room patients' vital signs with the same reliability as existing systems involving cumbersome cables.

The patch can be applied easily to patients' chests. It has been tested successfully on hundreds of patients at several hospitals and has proven to be just as reliable as existing cable-intensive systems.

After extensive testing at several hospitals, the device recently obtained the European Union's CE marking for medical devices.

An internet connection is all doctors need to be able to view and track patients' vital signs remotely and in real time, such as on a smartphone or smartwatch.

The company SmartCardia a spin-off of the EPFL was founded: October 2013 and is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The tropic house in Frutigen, Switzerland, is a commercial project using geothermal energy from hot water flowing out of the Lötschberg base tunnel for the production of exotic fruit, sturgeon meat and caviar in a tropical greenhouse in the Swiss alps.

A sturgeon farm is the heart of the Tropenhaus. Some 60,000 fish are intended to be grown in 40 outdoor basins. Intended to yield 20 tonnes of meat as well as two tonnes of caviar annually

A greenhouse dedicated to the production of exotic fruit, such as banana, papaya, mango and guava, of which about 10 tons are intended to be grown annually in an area of 2,000 m2.

Simplifying Food Waste Management for the Food and Beverage Industry:

Kitro is developing a solution to enable food and beverage outlets to optimize their performance by reducing avoidable food waste. The startup is running a pilot project within Laax’s Greenstyle sustainability initiative to help restaurants reduce food waste.

Kitro aims to recover the value of food, by measuring and analysing food waste. Kitro developed the first fully automatic food waste management solution for the food and Beverages (F&B) industry. The startup offers an integrated product comprising of the Kitro box and a software, enabling restaurants to identify, track and monitor food waste, thereby reduce costs.

Laax was Kitro’s third pilot. Other outlets that have tested the product or are currently testing it include; Einstein Hotel in St. Gallen, Mercure Hotel in Berlin, Zugorama Canteen, Swiss Re Centre for Global, Dialogue in Rüschlikon, Riders Hotel in Laax and Berghaus Nagens Restaurant.

The company Kitro SA was founded: November 2017 and is based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Detect falsification in digital images:

Technology today makes it easy for anyone with basic knowledge of programs like Photoshop to falsify digital images or scanned copies of official documents, e.g. birth certificates, bank statements or business contracts. In fact, the simplicity with which images can be modified has become a threat in many industries; think of the media for example.

To help businesses tackle image falsification (or image forgery, in the jargon) and re-build trust, the Geneva based startup Quantum Integrity developed a set of software modules that detect, quantify and qualify manipulations made to digital images.

Leaks in the water distribution network cause a significant loss of water, as locating them with precision is difficult and time consuming. The Swiss company Hinni AG has developed, in corporation with technology partners, a solution to enable the almost immediate detection of the origin of the leak.

PS: The material of the pipeline is mostly insignificant. Why? Because the integrated hydrophone does not measure the sound waves on the pipe, but instead directly in the medium water. This works in the same way with metal as well as with plastic pipes.
